Resistance, Resistance, Resistance!
Voter Antipathy comes to Bristol on 26th May!
The National press has been; understandably, full of coverage of the election but the dominant factor emerging from events is the question of voter apathy/antipathy. All the major party leaders have found them selves heckled on the streets and commentators are asking the question; is politics working?
Bristol is no different; with Venue reporting the controversy of the Green Candidate, John Devaney apparently being excluded from a HTV debate. The Vote Nobody campaign attracted a wide spread of coverage from the national news site www.indymedia.org.uk right down to local news sources such as the Ashley Community Forum newsletter. Plus Bristol found itself the focus of national news as the launch-pad for the election manifesto of the Socialist Alliance, who are contesting a considerable number of seats including that of the controversial Labour-defector Shawn Woodward.
Bristol voters will now have the chance to debate the issues surrounding antipathy as well as examine the whole issue of how our democracy is organised and how involvement in political issues can be put back into the hands of the ordinary voter. The Resistance! Resistance! Resistance! Conference is pleased to announce, in addition to the extensive range of workshops featuring over 30 local and national speakers, a workshop-debate featuring Green Candidate John Devaney, the Socialist Alliance and Vote Nobody all on the same platform discussing our democracy.
