Build a web server from a skip? Share you internet connection over a radio connection? Take to the air with your own local TV station? Tech_2 will tell you how.
What? Tech_2 is a series of gatherings of artists, tekkies and content creators busy with building an independent, challenging, non-corporate culture. The emphasis on these gatherings is on skill and knowlege sharing and developing networks, combined with discussion of the social and political aspects of new media technologies and their applications in culture.
Where? Tech_2 is a touring programme; moving into different environments it takes a workshopping process with it but tailors the activities and participants to the specific interests of different situations.
Who? Tech_2 participants are: digital artists, musicians, technical experts, independent journalists, radio and video makers, researchers, dancers, DJs, writers, poets, organisers... and many people who cross over these categories and many people who don't fit into any.
Bristol's Cube Cinema may be set back after the recent fire, but they are still going strong, bringing us some of the best underground cyber technologists from around the country in an open, collaborative event.
The daytime workshops and discussions take place at Windmill Hill City Farm - they are intending to set up a wireless network there so come and work with us among the animals and the plants!
The evening events take place upstairs at the Hatchet Pub (Frogmore St.), which will also be open each night, 21st to 25th for relaxed, lounge style music, visuals and special events from Ambient TV, sulphric [p]lacid, Independent Heroine and more. Stand by for workshops, screenings, wiring experiments and extreme DIY activity.
The Saturday brings us a community news workshop with discussions relating to issues such as legal, financing and in particular, to the potential to repurpose content from paper to on-line adn vice versa. We're hoping this will help us take BristolBeat forward - see you there.
Its for you to get involved. More info at:
