.....Johnny Atavistic & Slide Hambidge.....

Johnny Atavistic and Slide Hambidge have been out of the eye of the media storm for a while now since their wild years spent playing with the likes of the Memphis Five, Woody Mann and Mr Zimmerman himself - but their low down ragged blues and folk has only risen to the needs of a musical world that has so long been without them.

After returning from his stint as a freighter ship pilot on the Yang-Tse river Slide has developed some new underhand techniques, thumping his guitar with its down tuned bass into a new kind of Lighting Hopkins meets Tom Waits triumph of chords, rhythm and lead. While ol' Johnny has been smoking too many of those imported cigars and obviously met too many heart-breakin women these past years.

After breaking with the Delta Blues band the Deep Side Ambassadors, Johnny toured the mid-west headin up the Marysville road all the way to California (a tale he has newly retold in a six-minute mock epic with Slide on their last Ep out on BlackHeart records) -then returning to his roots in Alabama.

The boys have a new album (as yet though they have yet to commit to even their friends at BlackHeart) called 'Neon Prophet' of which Slide has been quoted as saying 'It's the best damn thing you'll hear since Tom [Wait]'s last blast'.

The album is only currently available on the internet since Johnny has discovered the wonders of the world outside of his 67' Eldorado. People listen out this is a rare opportunity afforded the alert music fan - this music is available no-where else you cannot buy this.

All at BristolBeat would like to thank Rickman and Frank at BlackHeart and Deborah 'Cutesy' Packer for their help in tracking down Johnny and Slide and convincing them to let us be the first in the world to hear the new album… Thanks guys… Now, people, sit back and wait for the sounds you can't pay for and will never replace.
